On top of anything in the relationship virtues and values, honesty will always be what people will surely want. There is what you call a “zone of safety” needed to be built by partners so that they will know their limitations and that both of them can trust each other feel comfortable about each other. They must have the confidence that they can rely on their partners to always tell the truth.
We can’t avoid that us humans we make mistakes unintentionally. But if we know that something will destroy the relationship or if beforehand we know that what we will do is going to be a mistake, avoiding it is the best way. Intentionally committing a mistake can make the relationship unhealthy. Another way is to recognize your mistake and never do it again. Both of you must know what is going wrong. Honesty is always the best policy.
